GMC Sierra 1500 bulb sizes and LED options
Start with the light you are replacing and the equipment installed on your Sierra 1500. Factory LED headlights can coexist with replaceable bulbs elsewhere on the truck. Use the year and lighting configuration in the sections below, including the separate Classic, Limited and Denali entries. Sierra HD and Sierra EV have separate lighting configurations.

921 reverse-light LED option
If your Sierra has an original replaceable 921 reverse bulb, browse the white GTR Lighting 921/T15 Ultra reverse-bulb option below. Match the existing bulb and available housing space. This is a 921 bulb-family choice, and it is separate from a factory LED reverse-light assembly.
Sold as a pair: two bulbs. This GTR product is intended for reverse lights.
Replaceable reverse and license-plate bulbs
| Position | Original-bulb configuration | Application detail |
|---|---|---|
| Reverse / back-up | 921, where the original reverse light uses a replaceable incandescent bulb | Diode Dynamics lists a 2014–2026 Sierra 1500 application for the factory 921 configuration, excluding Texas Edition and factory LED reverse lamps. Its exact product application is separate from the GTR bulb-family choice above. |
| License plate | 194, where the original plate light uses a replaceable incandescent bulb | Diode Dynamics lists a 1999–2026 Sierra 1500 application for the factory 194 configuration. An integrated LED license-plate lamp needs its own matching service part. |
Diode Dynamics specifies these bulb types for the stated original-lighting configurations. Read the installed bulb when your lighting package differs. GMC’s equipment and replacement procedures are summarized below.
Factory LED headlights and front lighting
The original GMC configurations below use LED front lighting. Match the factory headlight assembly or its specified service part when replacing a failed light.
| Model year / trim | Original GMC lighting |
|---|---|
| 2026 Pro | GMC lists LED projector headlights, LED front turn signals and daytime running lamps for this trim. |
| 2025 Elevation | GMC lists LED projector headlights, LED front turn signals and daytime running lamps. LED fog lamps are listed separately. |
| 2024 Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate | GMC’s brochure lists LED dual-projector headlights as standard across these eight trims. Its Pro feature list also identifies LED daytime running lamps. |
The 2025 and 2026 entries apply to the named trims. Check the original assembly for another trim or an aftermarket headlight. A headlight specification does not identify the reverse, license-plate or fog-light equipment elsewhere on the truck.
2026 Sierra 1500 rear-light replacement chart
Choose the installed rear-light equipment independently of the headlights. In the 2026 manual, the base taillight has three labelled functions, while the uplevel diagram specifically shows a replaceable reverse bulb.
| Equipment | Position | GMC replacement information |
|---|---|---|
| Base taillight | Combined stop / tail / turn | Bulb replacement is described; no bulb number is printed. |
| Base taillight | Reverse / back-up | A replaceable bulb is shown. Use the 921 application above only when that is the original installed bulb. |
| Base taillight | Rear sidemarker | A separate bulb position is shown; no bulb number is printed. |
| Uplevel taillight | Reverse / back-up | A replaceable reverse bulb and removal procedure are shown. Other functions require their own assembly-specific service information. |
| Regular cab | Cargo | A cargo-bulb replacement procedure is provided. |
| Regular cab | Center high-mounted stop / third brake light | A separate brake-bulb replacement procedure is provided. |
| Crew cab / double cab | Cargo and third brake light | GMC directs replacement to the dealer. |
| Installed plate lamp | License plate | A replaceable-bulb procedure is provided; use the 194 application only for the matching original incandescent configuration. |
| LED lighting assembly | Functions supplied as an LED assembly | GMC directs replacement to the dealer. |
2025 and 2024 Sierra 1500 rear-light replacement chart
Both manuals list the following equipment and service paths. Their uplevel taillight instruction differs from the specific replaceable-reverse illustration in the 2026 manual.
| Equipment | Position | GMC replacement information |
|---|---|---|
| Base taillight | Combined stop / turn | Bulb replacement is described; no bulb number is printed. |
| Base taillight | Reverse / back-up | A replaceable bulb is shown. Check the original bulb against the 921 application above. |
| Uplevel taillight | Taillight assembly | GMC directs taillamp replacement to the dealer. |
| Regular cab | Cargo | A cargo-bulb replacement procedure is provided. |
| Regular cab | Center high-mounted stop / third brake light | A separate brake-bulb replacement procedure is provided. |
| Crew cab / double cab | Cargo and third brake light | GMC directs replacement to the dealer. |
| Installed plate lamp | License plate | A replaceable-bulb procedure is provided; the original incandescent 194 application is listed above. |
| LED lighting assembly | Functions supplied as an LED assembly | GMC directs replacement to the dealer. |
Cargo and third brake light use different functions
The regular-cab high-mounted housing contains separate cargo-light and brake-light bulb positions. Match both the bulb type and its function. The reverse-light product shown above is not a recommendation for either position. GMC directs crew-cab and double-cab replacement to the dealer.
2023 Sierra 1500 rear-light and cargo service
The 2023 GMC manual separates base and uplevel rear lighting and gives a regular-cab-only procedure for the cargo and third brake light. Match the original bulb in a serviceable lamp; these manual sections do not print bulb numbers.
| Equipment | Position | GMC replacement information |
|---|---|---|
| Base taillight | Combined stop / turn | A bulb replacement procedure is provided; no bulb number is printed. |
| Base taillight | Reverse / back-up | A separate replaceable bulb is shown. |
| Uplevel taillight | Taillight assembly | GMC directs replacement to the dealer. |
| Regular cab | Cargo | A cargo-bulb replacement procedure is provided. |
| Regular cab | Center high-mounted stop / third brake light | A separate brake-bulb replacement procedure is provided. |
| Crew cab / double cab | Cargo and third brake light | GMC directs replacement to the dealer. |
| Installed plate lamp | License plate | A separate replaceable-bulb procedure is provided. |
| LED lighting assembly | Functions supplied by the LED assembly | GMC directs replacement to the dealer. |
For the rear-bulb procedure, GMC recommends replacing the grommets and directs owners to the dealer for those parts.

2021–2022 Sierra 1500 service chart — regular and Limited
GMC supplies a separate 2022 Sierra 1500 Limited manual alongside the regular 2022 Sierra 1500 manual. The 2021 and 2022 Limited manuals explicitly describe a replaceable base front-turn bulb. The regular 2022 replacement section does not include that front procedure; the omission does not establish LED equipment or an unserviceable lamp.
The three manuals describe the equipment and service paths below without printing bulb numbers. Match the original bulb where a replaceable bulb is fitted. Cargo and third brake light remain separate functions, and their regular-cab instructions do not apply to the independent license-plate subsection.

Earlier Sierra headlight bulb options
Choose the original bulb type in the year and equipment chart below. Sierra 1500 Classic, Limited and Denali can use different headlights from another Sierra sold in the same year. Match the installed bulb, connector and cooling space, especially if the headlight assembly has been changed.

LED headlight conversion bulbs may not comply with FMVSS/CMVSS requirements for on-road use. Check applicable state and provincial laws before use.
9012 low/dual-beam LED options — 2014–2015
Philips lists 9012 in the low/dual-beam column for 2014–2015 Sierra 1500. It supplies no separate high-beam bulb code for that row. Compare these Alpha, Morimoto and GTR 9012 options for the original 9012 configuration.
Each 9012 product shown includes two bulbs. Check space for the drivers and cooling components and confirm the dust cap closes.
H11 low-beam LED options
The listed 2009–2013 regular-body Sierra 1500 and the specified 2007–2008 equipment rows use H11 low beams. Use the exact row below; the 2007 Classic has separate 9006 or Denali 9005 entries.
9005 LED options — high beam or specified Denali low beam
9005 is the high-beam entry in the earlier two-bulb-type configurations below. The listed 2002–2006 Denali and 2007 Classic Denali also use 9005 in the low-beam column. Keep low and high positions separate when ordering.
9006 low-beam LED options
Use these for the 2000–2001 original 9006 configuration, the listed ordinary 2002–2006 equipment, or the listed 2007 Classic Hybrid, SL, SLE, SLT and WT. The Denali 9005 exceptions are shown separately in the chart.
The Morimoto and GTR H11, 9005 and 9006 products shown are sold as pairs of two bulbs. Check the selected Alpha product’s package contents. Follow the selected product’s installation instructions and stated intended use.
D5S HID replacement option
For a truck with the original D5S HID configuration, select the matching HID bulb. This is separate from a factory LED headlight or a 9012 halogen lamp. The option below is Morimoto XB D5S, 5500K, sold as a pair.

2019 regular-body and 2020 Sierra 1500: the reviewed Philips rows supply several exterior bulb designations, but no headlamp code. Use the original headlight’s bulb or assembly type; do not carry the 2019 Limited HID entry across to the regular model.
2016 factory LED equipment: Philips’ earlier catalog explicitly lists LED low beam, high beam, fog, daytime-running, parking and front-turn lighting for the “1500 w/LED H/L” branch. Its separate HID branch has a D5S headlamp entry. This 2016 equipment split does not establish the same configuration for every later model year.
Detailed exterior catalog entries: signals, fog, reverse, cargo and plate
The entries below retain each model, year and equipment qualifier from Philips’ 2022 catalog. Unlisted columns are omitted from the cell, without implying LED equipment or absence. The source’s combined Back-Up & Cornering column stays combined: where it lists 921, 1156, check the original bulb instead of assigning one number to each function. Bulb quantities are not supplied by these catalog rows.

Reading the alternatives: W/HID applies where printed in the individual cell. The 2017–2018 parking entry retains both 7440NA and 7444NA(W/HID). The 2020 stop entry is 7443; that does not supply a code for an unlisted rear-turn or tail column. The 2007–2008 Denali plate entry is the literal 192 in the 2022 source.
Philips’ earlier Sierra-family catalog uses H11-55W and 12086 in some rows where the later catalog uses H11 and PS24WFF. Those source designations are retained separately. The earlier family rows are not a new 1500-only fitment claim. Catalog upgrade-availability symbols have been omitted from the displayed bulb numbers; they do not determine a vehicle’s bulb size by country.

GMC’s 2021–2026 manuals, including the separate 2022 Limited manual, caution against replacing incandescent bulbs with aftermarket LED bulbs because this can damage the vehicle electrical system. Follow the selected product’s installation instructions and stated intended use. This manufacturer instruction is separate from identifying the original bulb and a product’s physical application.
