How do I choose the correct exhaust stack length?
Measure your current stack and the space available from its connection to its top. Compare the selected product length, mounting points and clearance around the cab and other equipment. Select the exact length option on the product page before ordering.
What is the difference between I.D. and O.D. on a reduced bottom?
I.D. means inside diameter and O.D. means outside diameter. A stack’s main diameter can differ from its lower connection: some 6-, 7- and 8-inch products are listed with a bottom reduced to 5 inches. Confirm the specified I.D. or O.D. against the mating pipe dimensions rather than matching only the main stack size.
What does expanded/slotted bottom mean?
It describes the lower connection design. The listed 5-inch curved expanded/slotted stack is described as fitting over a connecting exhaust. Check the exact product specifications and mating pipe measurements before choosing a clamp; plain and reduced bottoms are separate options.
Will these stacks fit any semi truck?
Fit depends on the exhaust dimensions and mounting arrangement. Check the pipe connection, stack length, brackets and clearance on your truck. A matching nominal diameter alone does not confirm fitment, especially on a modified system.
Are clamps, brackets and both stacks included?
Review the individual listing for package quantity and included parts. The checked 5-inch curved expanded/slotted and 8-inch bull reduced-bottom listings describe one exhaust stack. Do not assume clamps, brackets or a pair of stacks are included unless the listing explicitly says so.
Is the Peterbilt 589 heat shield kit an exhaust stack?
No. The Alpha PBSP-HS7-5-589 kit is intended for a Peterbilt 589 with 5-inch muffler pipes and 7-inch top stacks. It includes two 7.5-inch-wide by 64-inch-tall stainless shields, four clamps and mounting hardware. Exhaust stacks, muffler pipes and elbows are not included.
Will changing the stack change engine performance or exhaust sound?
Tip style and diameter are not enough to establish a performance or sound change. These depend on the complete exhaust system. Match the replacement to the existing setup and confirm any system changes with a qualified installer.
