Watermelon lights are round, domed truck lights named for their curved shape. Depending on the exact product, they may be used as marker lights, signal lights, auxiliary show lights or parts of a custom interior or exterior lighting layout. The familiar shape is only the starting point: full-size and mini lights can differ in lens material, mounting pattern, included parts, voltage and wire functions.
If you are ready to shop, start with our full-size watermelon lights. If you are still choosing a style, use the full-size watermelon light guide to compare the main families before opening individual product specifications.
Why are they called watermelon lights?
The name describes the rounded lens profile. Many versions add a faceted or star-pattern lens that spreads the visible points of light into a distinctive radial appearance. The same general shape now appears in several very different products, from compact grommet-mounted mini lights to complete glass-lens assemblies and multi-mode specialty lamps.

Full-size, mini and Mini XL are separate product families
Full-size watermelon lights create the traditional large dome appearance. Some are complete lights; others are kits, bulbs, lenses or housings that require matching parts. Our 3/4-inch mini watermelon lights use a compact mounting format on the products documented for that hole size. Mini XL watermelon lights are another distinct range. Do not choose among them by the word “mini” alone—compare the cutout, grommet or fastener arrangement and rear clearance on the exact listing.

Glass and plastic describe the lens or housing material—not a universal performance result
Glass watermelon lights are chosen for their real-glass construction and classic faceted appearance. Plastic and polycarbonate versions offer different styling, colors, functions and kit configurations. Material alone does not prove that one light is brighter, more impact resistant or longer lasting than another. Those claims depend on the exact part and its manufacturer documentation.
Browse glass watermelon lights and plastic watermelon lights, then compare the included housing, bulb or LED module, gasket, bezel, mounting hardware and wiring for the products you are considering.
Single-color, dual-color and multi-mode lights do different jobs
- Single-color lights produce one LED color. Some exact products provide separate low- and high-intensity inputs.
- Dual-color lights provide two LED colors with separate wire functions. The override behavior and allowed use depend on the exact SKU.
- Alpha 360 lights are complete specialty glass lamps with steady, LED rotating-simulation and strobe modes. They are not Class 1 warning lights and are presented for off-road, display and novelty use subject to local law.
- Glass Is Class Gen 2 is a modular real-glass housing and AlphaFit bulb system. Single-color Gen 2 bulbs use 15W dim and 20W high settings. Gen 2 Duo bulbs use one power setting per color.
See the dedicated Alpha 360 range or Glass Is Class Gen 2 range for the exact choices in each system.
A similar shape does not guarantee the same fit
Before ordering, identify whether the listing is a complete lamp, a conversion kit, a bulb, a lens, a housing or a bracket. Then compare the mounting opening, stud spacing, base diameter, rear clearance, operating voltage, connector and wire functions. A product described as universal still needs a suitable mounting point, attachment hardware and wiring plan for the vehicle.
Our watermelon light mounting and wiring guide shows the checks to make before drilling or connecting power. For hardware, browse watermelon light brackets and verify the opening and orientation on the individual product page.
Common questions about watermelon lights
Are watermelon lights only for semi trucks?
No. Watermelon-style lights are sold for semi-truck, trailer, pickup and other custom installations. That does not make every light a direct fit for every vehicle. Use the exact mounting and electrical specifications for the part.
Are all watermelon lights road legal?
No blanket answer applies. Color, mounting location, function and local rules matter. A compliance statement for one product and one primary function does not extend to every color or auxiliary mode. Confirm the exact product documentation and the rules where the vehicle operates.
Can I replace one brand with another?
Only after the physical and electrical specifications match. Compare the mounting pattern, housing depth, voltage, connector, wire functions and included components. The rounded lens shape is not enough to establish interchangeability.
Do watermelon light kits include everything?
Contents vary. Some kits combine a light, bracket and harness; others are lamp-conversion or housing kits. Vehicle mounting hardware may still be excluded. Check the included-parts list on the exact watermelon light kit.
