How to choose a full-size watermelon light

Start with the function and mounting location, then compare the exact product specifications. A similar dome shape does not establish common fitment between brands, generations or housings.

1. Decide whether you need a complete light or a component

A listing may contain a complete lamp, a conversion kit, a bulb, a glass housing, a lens, a bezel or a bracket. Read the included-parts list before comparing prices or planning the installation. 2. Compare glass and plastic by the exact product

Glass watermelon lights use real-glass lenses or housings on the products identified that way. Plastic watermelon lights use polycarbonate or other documented plastic construction. Material affects appearance, handling and replacement options, but it does not prove that every product in one group is brighter, tougher or longer lasting than every product in the other.

3. Keep single-color, dual-color and multi-mode controls separate

Single-color products may provide one function or separate low/high inputs. Dual-color products use separate inputs for their colors, with behavior that must be checked on the exact SKU. A product described as universal still requires a suitable mounting point, vehicle hardware and wiring plan. The word “watermelon” does not guarantee that an existing bracket or opening will match.

5. Check voltage, connector and wire functions
